Old Abe was the Bald Eagle that acted as a Union states mascot in the Civil War. The eagle was named after Abraham Lincoln. The U.S. Army 101st Airborne division traces its eagle logo history to Old Abe. The Old Abe Aviation tag line, “The Airborne Advantage”, acknowledges the concept that an aerial capability is of great value. It also acknowledges the elite characteristic of the U.S. Army Airborne divisions.
